Oregon Shakespeare Festival: The Merry Wives Of Windsor, Iowa

Alison Carey, unleashes a shamelessly witty twist on Shakespeare’s original play. Think of Shakespeare meets “Beach Blanket Babylon”  this production is a classic farce, the Oregon Shakespeare company is doing something totally and absolutely silly and amazing—– it actually works. Falstaff is failed presidential candidate Sen. John Falstaff, having lost the Iowa caucuses, he is hopelessly in dept. He tries to seduce two wealthy wives of the town, both married, one to a man, one to a woman, hoping to dip into their purses, but the ladies set out to teach him a lesson. His misbehavior is about to receive it’s final comeuppance. I really enjoyed this play; with an outrageous plot and comical characters, Shakespeare’s words and todays language, it is hilariously funny and kept me awake and laughing, even though I went into the theatre feeling a little tired after a long day.
