Poinsettia Festival at Ashland Greenhouses

FullSizeRenderIt’s the season for hunkering down inside a warm and cozy house, sitting by the fire warming your toes with cold and windy weather outside. I like the change of seasons, throwing on a thick sweater and some gloves and tramping through the snow. Summer warmth seems so far away.

The holiday’s are just around the corner, Jean-Pierre and I went to Ashland Greenhouses for their Holiday Poinsettia Festival, hundreds or maybe thousands of Poinsettias of all colors on display, it was a wonderful sight, here is me in the middle of it all!

The ceremony to honor Lithia Park took place on the lawn above the upper duck pond, a plaque was presented to the Ashland Parks and Recreation team on Wednesday October 1st. 2014.

Lithia Park is a 93 acre landmark named for the Lithium Oxide Spring Water that bubbles up into the fountain on the Plaza. The park that was designed by landscape architect John McLaren ( who also designed San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park )  it has an organic layout and follows the natural terrain along Ashland Creek. You will find while walking through the colorful Park… Duck Ponds, Emerald Lawns, a Japanese Garden, Tennis Courts, Children’s Playground, Picnicking Areas, a Rose Garden and wonderful trails through the natural environment and the lush canopy of sycamores, maples and oak trees.

Lithia Park was named in the list with other notable public spaces such as The Cliff Walk in Newport R.I, Lake Mirror Park in Lakeland Florida and Rainier Vista in Seattle Washington among others. So we are in good company, visitors and locals enjoy our beautiful year round paradise, wander along the sparkling Ashland Creek and take time to smell the flowers.  Lithia Park is a great place for the whole family.
